Compress Image Online (JPG, PNG, WebP)
Drop your images in, keep the quality near 75%, and download the smaller files. Most photos get 50 to 80 percent smaller with no change you can see. Everything happens in your browser, so nothing is uploaded.
Private by design: your files are processed on your device and are never uploaded.
How to use it
- Drop one or more images into the box, or click it to choose files.
- Move the quality slider. Around 70 to 80 percent is a good start for photos. The result updates as you move it.
- Optional: set a maximum width. Photos for email or websites rarely need more than 1920 pixels.
- Download each file, or all of them as one ZIP.
What makes the file smaller
The tool re-saves your image at the quality you choose. Lower quality means a smaller file. It can also shrink the picture itself: a 4000-pixel-wide photo shown on a phone screen carries far more detail than anyone sees.
Quality and size work together. If you need a very small file, lower both a little instead of pushing only one to the extreme.
JPG, PNG or WebP?
- JPG is best for photos. It compresses them well.
- WebP is usually 25 to 35 percent smaller than JPG at similar quality and works in all current browsers.
- PNG is lossless, so it barely shrinks. Keep it for logos, screenshots and images with transparency. For a smaller file, pick WebP.
Transparent areas turn white when you choose JPG.
A useful side effect
Re-saving the image removes hidden metadata such as the camera model and GPS location. That is handy before you post a photo online. The picture is also rotated to the correct way up first, so it will not appear sideways.
Questions
Is my image uploaded anywhere?
No. The work is done by your own browser on your own device. You can confirm it in your browser's network tab: no file data is sent out.
Why did my PNG barely change?
PNG stores every pixel exactly, so there is little room to shrink it. Choose WebP or JPG as the output format for a much smaller file.
Is there a limit on file size or count?
There is no limit set by this site. Very large images can be slow or run out of memory on a phone, so the tool reduces images above about 16 megapixels.
What if the result is bigger than the original?
Then the original was already well optimized. The tool keeps your original file and tells you so.
