What DPI to Use for PDF to Image
In short
Use 150 dpi for most things. Use 100 dpi for small files that only need to be read on a screen, and 200 dpi when text must stay sharp or the image will be printed.
What dpi means
DPI is dots per inch: how many pixels the converter draws for each inch of the page. More pixels give a sharper image and a bigger file.
Pixel sizes
| dpi | US Letter (8.5 x 11 in) | A4 |
|---|---|---|
| 100 | 850 x 1100 | about 827 x 1169 |
| 150 | 1275 x 1650 | about 1240 x 1754 |
| 200 | 1700 x 2200 | about 1654 x 2339 |
Which one to pick
- 100 dpi: quick previews, chat apps, small files.
- 150 dpi: everyday use, sharing, attaching to documents.
- 200 dpi: small print, scanned pages, printing.
How to set it
In the PDF to JPG tool, the Resolution menu offers all three. The JPG quality slider also changes the file size. Around 85 to 90 percent keeps text clean.
If the file is too big
Lower the dpi first, then the quality. You can also run the images through the compress tool afterwards. For the full steps, see how to convert a PDF to an image.
